WI - Food and Beverage Facility Floor Coating System Case Study
Problem:
A large food packaging company, located in Wisconsin, needed to renovate their packaging room floor. Since their operations were at capacity, they were concerned with the amount of down time that would be required to complete the project.
Initial Review:
We inspected the packaging room floor and noticed that many areas of the the existing floor that had been coated were bubbled, cracked and broken open. Our client was concerned about an upcoming inspection and wanted to completely remove and replace the floor system. Initially, we proposed a complete flooring system that contained an antimicrobial, but because of budget constraints and minimal down time available, our propsal was rejected. The client, wanting to work with us, asked us for another solution. We revaluated the situation and submitted a new proposal that provided a patching solution.
Work Performed:
A weekend plant shut down was scheduled. We removed all of the failing floor material, plus we cut over the previous damage so that any existing damage could not undermine the surrounding floor system. We carefully completed the patching that included an antimicrobial additive. The repairs were completed in one day. The following day, the sanitation team cleaned the area and the facility was back in operation.
Final Result:
The packaging room floor was restored to a working condition without any holes or cracks in the flooring. The floor passed inspection. The client plans to continue with patching repairs until additional budget money is available for a completely new flooring system.
